>A properly inflated tire provides better gas mileage. A tire filled with ordinary compressed air will lose 1 – 3 pounds of pressure in less than a month. The warmer the weather, the more pressure tires will lose. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Consumers can improve gas mileage by around 3% by keeping their tires inflated to the proper pressure. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.
Yet only 1 in 5 consumers take the time to make sure their tires are properly inflated. President Obama made a comment about this during the campaign last year. It’s a small thing but every little bit counts.
Get yourself a decent air pressure gauge. I’ve got one. Check your tire pressure frequently, especially since the warmer weather is coming soon.
