TreeHugger is reporting on a new study by the Institute of Transportation Studies, which found that while the average horsepower of passenger cars sold in America has increased by 80%, the average curb weight of cars has gone up 12% and the average gas mileage has gone up only 6%. This is in contrast to other countries where efficiency is going up at a much higher rate and cars are actually shrinking.

We think it’s high time that 6% was bumped up a couple of notches. If only to keep America on top of the world.
