When purchasing gasoline, we also need to remember that actually sucking the stuff out of the ground actually has its own environmental cost, beyond simply burning it in our engine.
To that end, various organizations are rating both the so-called “wheel-to-well” environmental impact, and, in perhaps a more disturbing trend, the human toll of the extraction process. Sunoco and Marathon come out on top. And the worst offender? Exxon-Mobil.
