Waze is a user generated smart phone application designed to bring drivers the most up to date road information. This application is downloadable for free from their site, www.waze.com. When you drive traffic data is communicated to other drivers. Drivers can also manually input road information, such as police traps, weather conditions or accidents, to other Waze users by placing visual indicators or attaching photos directly to the map. A Waze user can also report new roads or mapping errors. The success of Waze is completely driven by user participation and right now it’s still in its early stages. However, I believe that this social application has the potential to protect me from two evils: traffic and speeding tickets.
