Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV)

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) like a regular hybrid with an extension cord. You can fill it up at the gas station, and you can plug it in to any 120-volt outlet or a charging station. It’s like having a second fuel tank that you always use first – only you fill up at home, from a regular outlet, at an equivalent cost of under a buck a gallon.

Think of it as an electric vehicle with a gas backup. If your driving is mostly local, you almost never need to refill the gas. So you’ll have a cleaner, cheaper, quieter car for your local travel, and the gas tank is always there should you need to drive longer distances.

The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides clean energy grants and a tax credit of $2,500 for PHEVs for the first 200,000 cars sold by a manufacturer.

Boulder Hybrid Conversions
Boulder Hybrid Conversions converts Priuses to plug-in vehicles, allowing them to use less gas, without compromising the ability to drive the vehicle as a regular hybrid. With Colorado’s alternative fuel vehicle tax rebate, Coloradans can receive up to 75% back on a plug-in conversion – that means you can convert your Prius starting at around $2,600 (after rebate).

CalCars
The California Cars Initiative is a Palo Alto-based nonprofit startup of entrepreneurs, engineers, environmentalists and consumers promoting 100+MPG plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). We’re building demand among highly receptive markets to encourage auto makers to produce 100+MPG high-performance, clean hybrid cars.

Driving Electric
DrivingElectric.org is a collaboration between the major plug-in driver groups to create a one-stop resource for anyone intrigued by electric vehicles. Working together with community and advocacy groups, and soon including automakers and dealers, we have launched an online community and searchable directory. Through personal engagement and the power of online networking, we are connecting current plug-in drivers with consumers who want to make informed decisions about their next vehicle.

Enginer
Sells complete 2kWh and 4kWh lithium battery systems. This lowest-priced of all conversion options uniquely can be installed in Generation 1 (pre-2004) Priuses as well. Enginer has installer partners and offers do-it-yourself instructions. The Michigan-based company is a consortium between AutomationTech Inc, USA and Australia-owned Enginer Environmentech Ltd., China.

Dorman Hybrid
Dorman’s batteries save service technicians time and owners of hybrid vehicles money. Unlike OE replacements, Dorman batteries arrive as “plug and play” direct replacements. They are ready to install and require no programming time (or expensive programming tools).

Green Gears
Green Gears helps businesses, institutions, and individuals cut energy costs, energy consumption and carbon emissions. Converting to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) is a meaningful step toward a future that is both profitable and sustainable.

NRG Energy
NRG eVgo (ee-vee-go) is creating the nation’s first privately funded, comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, providing electric car charging solutions directly to electric car owners as well as businesses looking to serve the EV charging needs of their residents, tenants, employees or customers.

Plug In Supply
Plug-In Supply designs, develops and produces advanced technology battery packs for converting hybrid cars into plug-in hybrids.

Revolo
Revolo is smart technology in action. This plug-in, parallel hybrid solution transforms vehicles, allowing motor and engine to work seamlessly for a completely fuel efficient, green automobile.
